Audition Notice: The Silver Stars Musical Revue Society

The Silver Stars Musical Revue Society is holding auditions for mature singers and dancers for our 2013/14 performing season.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to providing musical entertainment for the general public. Performers demonstrate that being mature does not prevent them from being energetic, creative and glamorous.
We are looking for enthusiastic performers, aged 50+, with vocal or dance experience and stage personality.
Singer auditions will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2nd from 2-4 P.M. at Lakeview Community Association
(6110 - 34 St. S.W.). Bring a prepared song or CD or provide sheet music.

Dancer auditions will be held on Monday, Nov. 4th from 7:45 - 8:45 P.M. at the Joyce Reddy Home Studio
(6920 Hunterbow Cres. N.W.)  Bring a short prepared number and/or participate in our sequences.

Essentials of Acting starts November 2!

Essentials of Acting starts this Saturday, November 2! If you're interested in joining the class, please contact the studio at 403.228.5526 or info@corogues.com

In this class, students will explore the fundamentals of acting through partnered scene work. Class work includes improvisation, scene analysis, character development and playing for truth. Scenes will be developed with the instructor's guidance over the course of six weeks; some rehearsal outside of class time is required.

The couple in the Hughes carwash spot 'Coming Clean' should feel like they have been together for quite long time. That moment in life when two people start wearing similar clothes. Both in their early to mid 30s, they should be as natural as possible but with subtle oddities that make them unique / rememberable. This couple is made for each other.

  • Early to mid 30s
  • Medium, not very fat but could be chubby.
  • Natural looking with subtle oddities e.g. hair, bent or large nose, eye spacing, strange voice, even a weird laugh or extremely long beard.
  • Approachable but looks like he would annoy you after a while.
  • Actor references: David Cross (with a moustache), John C Riley, Paul Giamatti, DJ Qualls, Luis Guzman, Steve Busemi.

Melchior Gabor, headstrong, handsome, and charismatic. He knows much more than the others because of what he reads in books and is able to see the corruption in society.
Moritz Stiefel, tenor, Melchior's intense and nervous best friend. He feels intense pressure from his parents and his peers to succeed.
Wendla Bergmann, Soprano, a naive young girl who has limited knowledge about adult relationships. She is a childhood friend of the boys. She has a romantic and sexual connection with Melchior.
Ilse Neumann, Mezzo, another childhood friend who runs away from an abusive home to become a Bohemian.
Hänschen Rilow, Tenor, a very humorous, and almost arrogant classmate.
Ernst, Tenor, a naive classmate. He is Hanschen's love interest.
Martha Bessell, Alto, one of Wendla's friends who is abused by her father.
Georg Zirschnitz, Tenor, another classmate who lusts after his older, busty piano teacher.
Otto Lammermeier, Tenor another classmate who has a dream about his mother.

Casting Call - SAIT

We are currently holding auditions for volunteer acting talent for multiple short films that will be produced over the next 2-3 months. Finished films will be shown at our year end screening in May of 2014. Copies of films can be provided for cast demo reels.
Currently we are casting for:

Friends to the End (5 min. comedic drama) shooting November 5-7
Synopsis: Matt and his friends decide to set up Will on a blind date at a Hallowe’en party. The lady in question turns out to be Christy, the object of Matt’s affection. He tries to sabotage their date and the night turns foul.

Matt: male lead, late 20’s. Will’s best friend. Normally a well put together guy but he turns desperate when he sees his best friend on a date with the girl he likes. Matt kisses Christy.

Will: male, late 20’s. An underdog, he’s Matt’s best friend. On a down point in his life but his spirits are buoyed when he meets Christy on a blind date.

Christy: female, late 20’s. “Girl next door”. On a blind date with Will but has a crush on Matt.
 Christy kisses Matt. *Talent must be comfortable with getting wet in a rain scene.

Sandy: female, late 20’s. Bubbly and bright, married to Rich. Friends with Matt and Will and loves to play matchmaker.

Rich: male, late 20’s. A.K.A. “Big Rich.” Husky/stocky former party animal, now married with children.

Neighbours (5 min. thriller) shooting November 19-21
Synopsis: Sally is on her way home at the end of a long day. She discovers that she is being followed on her way home, and decides to do something about it.

Sally: female lead, mid 20’s. Professional business woman, paranoid and vulnerable.

John: male, mid 20’s. Sally’s creepy looking neighbor. He is a shut-in, introverted, nerd that’s in love with Sally.

Clarence: male, 30’s. A murderer. Trustworthy/professional façade.

Terms & Agreements (10 min. dark-comedic thriller) shooting December 3-5
Synopsis: Set in the near future, people are slave to society’s various terms and agreements. One day, Sarah fails to read the fine print of an online transaction and she must now deal with the consequences: 24 hours to take a life, or else take her own.

Sarah: female lead, early 20’s. A sassy and narcissistic college girl. Athletic. *A fight scene is scripted.*

Jess: female, early 20’s. Sarah’s needy best friend. She always abides by the rules.

The Collector: male, over 25. Very large and intimidating. Athletic. *A fight scene is scripted.*

Cleaner #1: male, over 25. Disposal crew for dead bodies. Just doing their job.

Cleaner #2: female, over 25. Disposal crew for dead bodies. Just doing their job. *non speaking*

Audition Notice: FRIDAY

AUDITIONS

Auditions are being held for the World Premier performance of  “ FRIDAY ”

Written and Directed by Jason Isaac Kooy.
 Recently divorced and at his lowest point, Joe searches for redemption through any Means necessary. Visited by Mo, a figment of his imagination and guide will he have a chance to redeem his relationship with his estranged wife, his children and his God and  defeat his personal demons?

The play will be presented as part of the Airdrie Original One Act Play Festival January 18 and 19, 2014 in Airdrie.

Audition Date :   Tuesday October 22 between 6-9 pm
Callbacks TBA
Audition Location: Rocky Mountain College – 4039 Brentwood Rd. NW,  Calgary (near Brentwood C-Train stop)

Please Prepare – One monologue (dramatic preferred) of no more than 2 mins

Characters

JOE – Male 40-50.  The protagonist.  Alcoholic and Schizophrenic looking for redemption from his ex-wife, children and God.

MARY – Female 40-50.  Joe’s Ex-wife.  Estranged and interested in protecting her children from Joe.

SARA – Female 21-25. Joe’s extranged oldest daughter.

MO – Male 21-50.  A figment of Joe’s imagination.  A sort of spiritual guide.

BEN – Male 21-50. Joe’s AA sponsor

AA Leader – Male 21-50.  The leader of the AA group Joe Attends.

AA GROUP – Various ages of men and women.

PROCESS SERVER – Male 21-50.  Serves Joe with a restraining order. (Will probably be one of the AA group of men)
Rehearsals will be held between November and December.  Place and time TBA.

Show Times  Either January 18 or 19.  Exact time will be determined upon receiving a schedule.  Participants should be available either day

Alberta Federation of Labour - Performers Wanted

The Alberta Federation of Labour is looking for 10 - 12 Performers to participate in a short two hour event in Downtown Calgary on Thursday, October 31st .

The look they are going for is filthy rich socialites/millionaires - think "The Great Gatsby".  Men would be in suit & tie/tux and the 
women in formal wear or business attire (fur stoles/winter coats).    
They are hoping the Performers would be able to supply their own costumes.

Performers will be paid $25 per hour (for two hours) and need to be outgoing & friendly.
