Audition Notice - 15 minute short film

Hi there,
My name's Stephen Sander and I'm currently producing/directing a 15 minute short film I wrote. We're still in the early stages of casting but there's a few roles that may not get filled from the initial casting call so I thought I'd forward this on to you in case you know of anyone who might be interested.

We'd be shooting primarily on weekends and are aiming to kick off principal photography end of April-early May area. Below are the roles we still need, feel free to pass my email along if anyone would like to get in touch with me directly.

CID (age 16-24)
Cid dropped out of highschool in grade ten and started leading a rebellious, drug filled life. In the film he's picked up byhis parents from the police station and brought home. A fight with his parents ensues and ends with him punching his father.

SARA (age 16-24)
Sara's a popular girl with a close circle of friends always buzzing around her. At a party, we see her flirting with different guys and acting rather irresponsibly, only to find out the reason for this is because she's just gone through a painful breakup.

CODY (age 16-24)
Cody's a bit of a loner who's been yearning to make some friends and turn his life around. He loves drawing and is exceptionally good at it. On a friday night with nothing else to do he wanders downtown and runs into Sara whom after leaving the party in tears is at her lowest point.

KASS (age 25-30)
Kass is the mother of Ariana and a single parent. She'd really struggling to keep her family afloat and cleans houses for a living. She's wearing thin though and is searching for some sense of purpose beyond that of barely squeezing through life.

KATE (age 30-40)
Kate is the mother of Beau and Cid. She cares about her children, but Cid's situation has put a lot of stress on her. Her and her husband are rather well off however their family isn't as happy as you might think, with Beau acting rather depressed for reasons she can't figure out.

JIM (age 30-40)
Jim is Tom's father. He has a good job and is a stellar parent, but he seems to have fallen out of love with his wife.
Thanks,

Stephen

Voice Spot - Spring Classes

Dan’ s VO Tip

To start preparing for Voice Over, I would suggest you  start reading everything out loud and try saying what you read the way you talk.
It may seem weird, but talking in your own voice and style is very important in creating your identity which will be your calling card that is unique to you.
Also by practicing to read out loud we teach our brain to comprehend as we are performing. Till now we are taught to comprehend while reading to ourselves.

Final Classes of the Spring; Note SpotLites only once per year…

Time: 6:30-9 pm
Where: TBA

Want to work on some new pieces for up coming auditions, this is your chance! Bring in a couple of monologues and get ready to get creative in a safe and supportive environment  where we can all take chances and "play" with ideas.

I will act as group leader and each night we will see everyone's monologue twice. Once cold, with whatever work you have done outside the group, and once after feedback. Then each member can decide to continue with the same piece the next week or move on to another.

The group will have a cap of 10 so don't miss out! Everyone is welcome regardless of experience.

Audition Notice - Smoking Gun Entertainment

CALLING ALL ACTORS!!

Come audition for Smoking Gun Entertainment's Murder Mystery Troupe (formerly known as Terry Shane Murder Mysteries).  We are a fully interactive Murder Mystery company, around since the late 80's.  We are super busy, with often two or more shows a night in the busier season.  We have WAY too much fun and because we are improv-based, there are hardly any lines to learn, maybe five or so, not word for word.

You should be quick witted, outgoing, and not afraid to be completely silly!  You should love to dress up and acquire new wardrobe pieces to never blend in during a show!  You'll be fed and paid after your initial audition.  We are especially looking for males and females averaging 30 (most characters are around this age, so if you are between 25 - 40, you'll get the most work) and who have great schedules on weekend evenings and some mid week too.  You aren't tied to any dates, you can pick and choose what you work and there are no rehearsals unless it's a brand new show, we experienced actors will hold your hand throughout your first few!!

Please email headshots and resumes to:   shootyoulater@shaw.ca  We are looking to audition about 15 new actors to join our troupe.  We currently have 35 but have become so busy, we need more!

Check out our website below to get more information about our company and please tell your friends!!!

Non-Union VO Bootcamp Workshop (3 weeks)

Are you getting auditions but not booking as much as you'd like to? Are you called in for character reads but want to explore more narration? In this three week VO Bootcamp, participants will dig deeper into the VO world where we will review script breakdown and solo voice material then delve into dialogue and multi voice spots too. All performers will receive the full benefit of working in our premiere sound studio while starting to explore the lesser known areas of voice work such as long form narration in corporate or documentary projects. Participants will also learn industry trends from professionals working in the current commercial climate and hear insights into their own performances from their peers, casting director and VO director. Class size is limited to 8 Participants.

WORKSHOP FACILITATORS:

Christian Goutsis
Christian has been a Calgary based artist for over 20 years. A multiple award winning actor, Christian has worked throughout Canada, in the US, and has toured internationally. As a voice talent, he has voiced well over 500 radio and television ads for local, national, and international companies. He has been a voice director at Six Degrees Productions since 2008, where he has directed numerous ads, narrations, radio plays and animations. Christian has been teaching VO workshops since 2008, and has taught acting classes for both kids and adults since 1992.

Sue Bristow
After taking a BFA in theatre from the University of Alberta, Sue Bristow shifted into film and television in 1996. She worked in every department, from casting to locations, before finding her way into producing with Corey Lee’s feature defining edward in 2003. That same year she was invited to attend the Producers’ Lab at the Canadian Film Centre, and shortly after returned to Calgary to produce the feature film Six Figures with David Christensen. Corey Lee and Sue continued to work together on two of the three short films in his Kilter trilogy project in 2005 and again in 2008. While working as the Calgary Film Commissioner in 2005, Sue initiated the film studio and creative hub project and continued her work on it through the end of 2007. Over the next three years Sue worked as a freelance project consultant, and in that capacity assisted in the creation of the highly successful William F. White viral van initiative. Returning to producing in 2010 at Corkscrew Media, Sue oversaw two seasons of the incredibly popular documentary series Pet Heroes for CMT and the groundbreaking program Build It Forward with Paul Brandt and Habitat for Humanity. Sue and Corey Lee collaborated again on his feature documentary, co-produced with the National Film Board, Legend of a Warrior . Recently Sue worked as line producer on the CFL documentary series Hail Mary for Anaid Productions and is in post production on an Old Trout Puppet Workshop project with the National Film Board. Since arriving at Six Degrees Sue is pleased to have seen a surge in casting for both voice and on camera talent and is looking forward to developing Calgary’s incredible talent pool even further.
