Audition Notice

A bit about the performance dates: January 7th, 2017 at
the Airdrie One Act Festival. We will also be applying to participate in the Foothills
regional one act festival, and if all goes well we might go to provincials- so
bring your optimism! Rehearsals begin in September! Availability will be sorted
out at your audition.
Auditions will be held at the Airdrie CO-OP Community
Room on August 12th and 13th.
Friday the 12th from 9am to 6pm
Saturday the 13th from noon to 6pm

A bit about the play: While not a play per se, ‘When I
Go’ is a bardic tale about the last survivors of an apocalyptic battle with the
dragon scourge. It is a dark fantasy tale, rife with swearing, violence and a
smidge of sexual tension. As it is a bardic story it follows a set structure
and rhythm that is not present in most conventional works for the stage. There
will be a small amount of singing for the entire cast, but don’t let that scare
you-every voice is unique and we want to hear them- however we will not be
auditioning singing unless you want to show off a bit for your audition.
Characters you will be auditioning for:
Narrator: The age range of the narrator is 18 and over,
and any gender. Just bring your gusto and storytelling chops. I want you to
bring a prepared story (1-4 minutes) when auditioning for this part, and you
will also do a cold read.
Alice: Ah our noble Paladin. Age range 30 to 50. Pretty
self-explanatory no? Bring your best knightly/queenly monologue. There will
also be a cold read.
Neema: The young squire of Alice. Teenagers are more than
welcome to audition for this role. So if you’re 18 or look like you’re pretty
young come on down. Bring your best bubbly/energetic/roguish maiden monologue.
There will be a cold read. (We cannot audition younger than 18 due to the rules
of the regional one act festival.)
Rangar/Ranga: The token “Big Guy” walks softly and
carries a big axe! Can also be a woman with a bit of narrative tweaking,
Elizabeth's totally on board with that. Age range 30-40. Bring your best
Barbarian impression and a towering physique. This role is mostly body
language, not so much speaking.
Dragon #3: Are you a bad enough dude to murder everything
in your path, and scare the crap out of our audience as a dragon? Bring your
best draconic persona, and a really sinister monologue. Gender and age is a
non-issue, although that being said a female voice would make for a great
dynamic with our two male dragons.
