Audition Notice

Greetings, my name is BJ Ronnback and I am Putting out a call for any and all interested actors to contact me in regards to the following casting call.

When I Go: A Bardic Tale
Directed by BJ Ronnback

To be performed at the regionals on April 28th and 29th in Okotoks, AB.
Rehearsals will take place every Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm in Airdrie. (True address will be given in private.)

"When I Go" is about the dragon scourge and the last remnants of an army sent against them.

Please be advised that this play is a darkly comedic, mostly dramatic exercise in the slightly audacious. (Basically there's enough swearing to put a sailor to shame, but enough elevated language to please the snobbiest snob!)

Characters we are looking to cast as soon as possible:

Narrator- Any age. Any Gender. Preferably has a good speaking voice and projection as said character will be performing from off stage.

Neema- Our little squire. Must be female. Quirky, bubbly and playful is said character. We are looking for a young lady (16-20, but that is by no means a cutoff point if you can play the requested admirably)

Rangar/Ragna:- Our barbarian. Male or Female. Strong silent type, although if our barbarian is tiny that could add some pleasant comedy to a static role.

Thank you.

When the end of the world came, it was not by fire or flood. It wasn't Martians or climate change or a meteor from space. It wasn't even revenge. Instead the end of the world was something much quieter, much softer, and much more melancholic. Now, so near to the end, one man finds himself in a place he said he'd never be with people he'd never imagined meeting – playing out the last mysterious chapter of his life in haunting parallel to the sombre fate facing our world. Scorpio Theatre's Artistic Director, Aaron Conrad, directs a night of theatre certain to stick with you  long after the curtains have closed and all the lights have gone black.

Urgent

I have a problem. One of my actors has admitted they "don't love the play" Screwtape. After having missed several rehearsals she has given me the nod on finding replacements - (she was playing 2 roles - Queenie and Mortar)

I am desperate to know if there is anyone out in there that would be interested in taking the role John Mortar, 50-60 male (17 lines in Act I and 3 in Act III)...

If you could let me know if you would be interested in this role and are available to rehearse in Cochrane Mondays, and Saturdays that would be great.

Performance dates are April 7,8,9 with two performances on the 8th

PLOT: The Great Mirror was once the pinnacle of Elvish society.  As a gift from the Goddess of Reflection, the Mirror was a weapon designed to rid the world of all things un-pure.  Upon the Mirror’s destruction, the last link to the Goddess was destroyed.  In her absence, the Alliance of the Elvish Blades was formed – an order of assassins and revolutionaries acting as the moral guardians of the land.  But the world has since fallen into chaos.

The Sangtarian Empire has invaded the mainland, hunting down all but a handful of the Alliance members in an attempt to reassemble the scattered Mirror.  An unlikely hero stands in their way – a young Half Elf by the name of Kaelis with a mysterious mark on his hand.  Abandoned by his Elvish mother as a child, Kaelis must come to terms with his destiny when his hometown falls under attack.  He embarks on a journey to follow in his mother’s footsteps, uncovering her dark past one step at time.  Dream, rise, rebel – that is the code of the Elvish Blades.  Let the war begin…

CASTING THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

KAELIS
Gender:  Male
 Character age: 18 to 25
Species:  Half-Elf          Kaelis is introspective, yet assertive – occasionally naïve as he struggles to find a sense of belonging and identity.  Abandoned by his Elvish mother for unknown reasons at a young age, he struggles to fit in when raised by his Human Aunt Gorda.  Growing up as a tormented Half Elf in a racist town has given him a strong sense of empathy towards the suffering of others. Kindness is his core, but impatience often blinds him to the impending consequences of his actions.  As his home is destroyed, he journeys to find his mother and become an Elvish Blade.  Pulling back the veil of mystery, he comes to terms with the idea that his mother’s intentions may not be true to the flawless memories he holds dear.  This is Kaelis’s coming of age story, becoming an Elvish Blade, joining the fight for freedom, and ultimately learning what it means to be a family.

GRIFFIN
Gender:  Female
Character age: 20 to 35
Species:  Elf     Captain Griffin has earned herself the nickname, Pirate Queen of the Y’llian sea.  A cut throat brigand, this swashbuckling seductress’s wit is as sharp and cunning as her twin swords.  A former member of the noble Alliance of the Elvish Blades, she fled and turned to piracy to survive the purge.  Her pirate short name ‘Griffin’ comes from the massive griffin beak carved into the shoulder of her armor – a trophy prize from her many adventures.  Not even her closest friends know her true name, a life and a cause she’s all but forgotten.  A strong friend to some; a stronger enemy to others – she’s not a woman you’d ever double cross.

 DAVIAT
Gender:  Male
Character age: 25 to 40
Species:  Elf     Daviat was one of the last fully trained assassins of the Alliance of the Elvish Blades.  A bitter, cynical Elf, he still holds his Alliance vows dear.  Since the purge, he has gone into hiding, and opened a plague clinic in the Slaver City of Terocco.  He’s begrudgingly held off the plague on the coastal regions, all the while keeping the tyrannical Prince Laeynch in power – advising his every move to one day take revenge on the Empire that hunted his people down.  Upon discovering Kaelis at his clinic, he vows to train the boy into an assassin to stop the Empire and their pursuit to assemble the Mirror weapon.

GORDA
Gender:  Female
Character age: 30 to 65
Species:  Human           A tough as nails, no nonsense survivalist – Gorda keeps her farm in tip top shape after her husband died from the plague.  Her hatred of Elves runs deep, after her Elvish sister in law abandoned Kaelis to be raised with her on the farm, far away from the dangers of the Empire.  She is fiercely protective of Kaelis, and makes every possible effort and excuse to shelter him from his mother’s dark secrets.  Only she knows Kaelis’s mother was a member of the Alliance of the Elvish Blades, and has vowed to take that secret with her to the grave if need be for Kaelis’s own protection.

SOLOMYN
Gender:  Male
Character age:  35 to 70
Species:  Human           A religious man, Solomyn is King of the Human lands of Dryden.  He fought in the defense of his land 10 years ago during the first failed Sangtarian invasion.  In the time since, he has become accustomed to the leisurely life of a drunken King .  Ale and wine are his closest advisors, leading to poor judgement and an unhealthy obsession with the Great Mirror.  When he learns the Sangtarian Elvish Empire is offering an alliance in exchange for his kingdom’s fragment of the Great Mirror, Solomyn must choose between his faith or his honor.

YOUNG KAELIS
PLEASE NOTE***  As we are in the process of casting the older Kaelis character first, we are currently accepting headshots and video auditions for YOUNG KAELIS – we are not booking in person auditions at this time for this specific role.  Auditionees will be contacted at a later date for callbacks once the principle actor has been confirmed.
Gender:  Male
Character age: 7 to 11
Species:  Half-Elf
See KAELIS bio for character.

In terms of our creative team, I graduated from the University of British Columbia's film production program in Vancouver in 2015.  Moved back to Calgary, started my company and have been working here ever since, mainly doing visual effects for American studio clients.  Here is my demo reel, in case you are curious.

Currently in negotiations with our potential DOP, Brock Newman, a very close friend of mine from film school.  Please have a look at his work if you'd like to see the cinematographic style of his work.
