This
is a great session for those interested in Master Class to take the
prep courses, OR for anyone interested in trying something new!
ABOUT US
Rogues was founded in 1993 in Vancouver, B.C. by seasoned working
professionals, Christianne Hirt and Joe-Norman Shaw - who shared a
desire to establish a creative home where actors could explore their
craft in an environment devoted to the highest and most demanding
artistic principles. After Christianne won the lead role of Hannah in
the series Lonesome Dove, the two moved to Calgary where they
re-established Company of Rogues in 1996, continuing their vision to
cultivate a community of first class actors.
We invite you to audit our classes and discover why Company of Rogues is the place to be.

Master
Class Program is a one-year full-time acting program. The program is
intended to provide the student actor with an intense level of training
under the highest caliber of professional instruction. Master Class
consists of four primary streams of study: Scene Study, Meisner
Technique, Acting for Film &Television, and Voice & Movement for
the Actor.
Steeped in the New York Tradition of actor training, we believe that
these four core streams provide a well-rounded foundation for those
actors with professional aspirations towards a career in stage,
television and film. While there are many worthwhile University and
College-level training programs, Rogues provides a highly professional
environment free from academic requirements. We believe this allows
total immersion into the development of the actor’s craft and the
authentic style of performance that is the hallmark of the New York
Tradition of actor training.
Located on Calgary’s funky and exciting 17th Avenue Strip, Company of
Rogues is deeply immersed in the vibrant theatre and film communities in
both, Calgary, Alberta and Vancouver, B.C. Our actors are sought after
by local/regional casting directors, filmmakers and theatre companies
alike. Furthermore, at Rogues all our instructors are working
professionals who offer the highest quality of instruction and
mentorship; providing career counseling and guidance even beyond the
term of the program. Our Studio Directors, Christianne Hirt and
Joe-Norman Shaw are available to provide you with more detailed
information through a Master Class Interview.
Actors interested in applying for the Master Class Program should
contact the Studio to arrange an interview and to set up an audition.
Our full-time program runs from early September to the end of June.
Students are accepted into the program through the interview/audition
process during the previous spring and early summer months (May-July).
However, if enrollment permits we occasionally admit students at a later
date.
Please submit either a headshot and resume or a photo with an
accompanying letter of interest (detailing any previous experience) via
e-mail or in person to the Studio (info@corogues.com).
Please include the subject heading “Master Class Audition/Interview”.
Upon receipt of your application we will arrange for an audition and
interview with one of our studio directors.
Master Class Interviews
The Master Class interview process is dedicated to creating a program
that is right for each actor, taking into consideration individual
scheduling needs and previous acting experience. We also offer a
customized payment plan and our flexible scheduling allows students to
remain employed during their training period- a feature unique to our
program. Beyond the one-year full-time program, actors will find
opportunities to continue to train with us on a course-by-course or
session-by-session basis for as long as they choose to call Company of
Rogues their creative home.
Master Class Auditions
For new students applying to the Master Class Program you are required
to audition for one of our studio directors. Auditions consist of the
presentation of one contemporary monologue of your choice, two minutes
in duration. The half-hour audition will consist of the presentation of
your selected piece and a working session with our director. Please
bring in a hardcopy of your headshot and resume or photo and letter on
interest to the audition.
Returning Master Class Students
If you are interested in creating a new program for your next year of
study, you can arrange an interview with Joe or Christianne to discuss
your options. Please send an email to the Studio with the heading
“Master Class Interview” requesting an interview and include classes of
interest.
** Returning students have the luxury of continuing their
payment plans throughout the summer and into their next stream of
study-this allows you to forego placing another deposit. |

MRU Theatre & Music Programs Need Your Help
Dear Colleagues,
You may be aware by now that the Mount Royal University administration
has recommended suspending intake into the Theatre Arts Diploma
(Performance), Theatre Arts Diploma (Technical Production) and the Music
Performance Diploma (Jazz). This move will eliminate these programs
over the next year. Students continuing to second year will be allowed
to finish but then the programs will be eliminated.
The Board of Governors of MRU will vote on these recommendations Monday,
May 27th. There is still time to influence their decision by writing to
the Board Chair and Vice Chair as well as to the MRU President, Vice
President Academic and the Dean of the Faculty of Communication Studies.
I am including some text of a letter you may wish to copy and paste
into a letter. Please feel free to edit this or write your own letter of
support. It is important to speak out about your support for the arts
in Alberta. This decision was arbitrary and without consultation with
any of the constituent groups affected by the cuts; students, employers,
high school programs, faculty, unions or theatres.
They believe arts is an easy cut and have told us directly that there is
no support for fine and performing arts from the Alberta Government as
the government focus is on more important programs that support the
economy.
Please let them know how you feel about arts and culture in Alberta.
I am including the email addresses of the MRU Board and administration
officials along with the contact information for Alberta politicians. If
you care about the performing arts, please let your voice be heard.
They believe support for the arts is soft and while they do expect some
protest, they believe Albertans are concerned about the economy and
performing arts are considered a frill, not a necessity. Let them know
what we know, that the performing arts industries are net benefits to a
stronger, growing and healthy economy and society.
Dear ,
I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed cuts to the
Theatre and Music Programs at Mount Royal University. Due to provincial
funding cutbacks, the University has had to make some difficult choices.
On recommendation from the academic administration, you will be voting
to suspend intake into the Theatre and Music Performance Diplomas
effective Fall 2013. While current students will be able to continue
next year to finish their diplomas, no new students will be accepted
into forthcoming years. This equates to a loss of 120 student seats in
theatre and music programs and possibly the end of the University’s
Shakespeare In the Park program – a twenty five year Calgary
institution. These cuts have a significant impact on the mentorship of
emerging artists in Calgary. These programs provide a constant flow of
new creativity to the vibrance of the Calgary community. Without them,
Calgary's cultural identity will suffer.
I urge you to reconsider this decision and recognize the impact it will
have on all aspects of this community from professional theatres, dance,
opera, musical performance venues, clubs and the entertainment and
cultural life of this city.
Sincerely,
Please write to MRU Board of Governors:
