BACKGROUND*

This September, Swallow-a-Bicycle presents *i-ROBOT Theatre, *a two-act original production performed in an industrial warehouse-style space.  *i-ROBOT
Theatre* integrates performance and cutting edge technology to create live science fiction. It will be part of Beakerhead, a citywide spectacle of arts and engineering.

The play explores a near-future world heavily populated with robots. The show uses technology to ask philosophical questions on the nature of identity and autonomy. The show is a re-working and retelling of the original 2011 production that received rave reviews. This version will be developed to be bigger, bolder and integrate more technology.

*Audition Notes:*

- A prepared monologue is not required, but if you wish you may perform 1 contemporary monologue no longer than 2 minutes. Cold read material will be provided.

- Callbacks will include group work.

- For call backs Actors are required the full duration of 6pm-10pm on March 4.

*Please note *i-ROBOT Theatre *will be a highly experimental and collaborative process. Aside from assigned characters, actors will be part of a group ensemble and the second half of the play will be highly physical in nature. Dance and/or physical theatre experience is *not *a pre-requisite; comfort working physically and an openness to physical improvisation *is *a prerequisite. Actors may also be employed as puppeteers; no puppet experience is necessary beyond a willingness to learn.

*Character Descriptions (Some roles are double cast)*

*Wife* – Female. 23-30. Top of the line android prototype. Very realistic but cannot completely pass as human.

*Jonathan* – Male. 25-30. Human. Programmer. Book smart, passionate, hardworking. Treats robots with some respect but ultimately does not view them as equals.

*Humidifier *– Female or male. 20-40. Household Robot. Innocent at first.
Takes corporeal form in the second act.

*Heaven Android Robots #1, #2, #3* – Male or female. 20-50. Newly created, little experience and very naive. Learning about the world.

*Builderbot* – Male or Female. Large industrial robot with revolutionary tendencies. Will be a multi-piece puppet.

*President* – Female. 30-45. CEO of DreamCorp, the world’s largest robot manufacturing company.  Confident, used to getting her way. Expects obedience.

*Siegfried* – Male or Female. Junkyard Robot. Built from the scraps of discarded and outdated robots. Dangerous. (Will be a puppet)

*Snotra* – Male or Female. Junkyard Robot. Built from the scraps of discarded and outdated robots. Dangerous. (Will be a puppet)
