Dear Theatre Alberta
members, Artstrek students and families, colleagues and friends:
Happy New Year! From all
of us at Theatre Alberta, here’s wishing you and your loved ones a fabulous
2012!
Plans for Artstrek 2012,
Theatre Alberta’s annual summer theatre school for teens, are well underway
here in the Theatre Alberta office. We're very excited about the 2012 program
and look forward to welcoming both new and returning faces to Red Deer College
this July.
We are writing to
clarify the dates for this summer's Artstrek. Initially we had hoped that the
2012 program could be extended into a three-week format, so to include a higher
number of students in order to meet increasing demand. However, the space was
not available this year for Theatre Alberta to run the extended program.
Theatre Alberta and Red
Deer College worked closely to try to find a way to make extended program
possible, but we were unable to do so without undermining the quality of the
Artstrek experience for some participants. In order to ensure that all students
receive the same opportunity for the best possible experience this summer, we
decided to preserve the two-week format for one final year. We do apologize for
any inconvenience this may cause for families who were anticipating a
three-week program.
We are happy to announce
that Theatre Alberta and Red Deer College have committed to extend Artstrek
into a three-week program beginning in July 2013. The space has been booked and
the dotted line has been signed!
We are also pleased to
share with you the selected play for Artstrek 2012: Shakespeare’s Romeo and
Juliet. The dates for Artstrek 2012 have been confirmed and will be:
• EXPLORATION
I: July 8 – 14 (for students aged 13 – 15 years*)
• EXPLORATION
II: July 15 – 22 (for students aged 16 – 18 years**)
*Students who are 12 but
have completed grade seven will be considered for admission to Exploration I.
**Students who are 15
but have completed grade ten will be considered for admission to Exploration
II.
The Artstrek 2012
brochure will be mailed to Theatre Alberta members on March 2nd, along with the
Spring Edition of All Stages. Be sure to confirm that your Theatre Alberta
membership will not expire before then to ensure that you receive your
complimentary copy of these publications.
We are also moving
forward with the Artstrek application process. This year, we will be accepting
applications exclusively online. The Artstrek 2012 brochure will not include a
paper copy of the application and we expect the online form to be live
mid-March. Keep an eye on one of our information feeds – to receive immediate
notification of the Artstrek online application launch:

If you are considering
attending Artstrek 2012, then it may also be time to begin researching community
sponsorship opportunities. Theatre Alberta has information and resources to
help interested students begin sourcing funding from within their communities.
This is not only a great way to help pay for admission but looks great on a
resume and university application! Click http://theatrealberta.com/artstrek/community-sponsorship/

Once again and as
always, thank you for your continued support of Artstrek and of Theatre
Alberta!
Sincerely,
