These are 3, 30-second commercials for the Calgary International Film Festival. They will all focus on the beginning impulse of film directors in a variety of comedic scenarios.  They will play before all of the films screened at the 2013 film festival and possibly be broadcast elsewhere. All cast and crew are volunteering their time but will be given a pass to the film festival in lieu of payment.

All roles are open to any ethnicity.  Improv skills will be seen as a strong asset.

Director: Michael Peterson
Producer: Michael Peterson, Michael Roik

Spot 1: Rest In Peace
ROBERT – The “Director” - Male Age 22 – 35
Cheery yet fussy, attentive and demanding; he knows what he wants and he wants it to be just a little better, more well thought out. He is putting up with people and their inability to meet his high-standards, but just barely. He has a positive outlook and knows his “cast” can do better.

MINISTER – Male Age 30 – 60
Calm, serious, and compassionate. A conservative and serious religious man. He is well groomed and can take control of a situation.

FUNERAL GOERS – Male and Female adults
15 – 20 Grieving relatives who are shocked and surprised when their dearly-beloved comes back to life to direct his own funeral. These are currently SOC but it’s possible a line or two of dialogue will open up.

Spot 2: Birth Baby
BABY – The “Director” - Male or Female 6 months or under
The baby is “born” and a voice-over will provide the “direction”.

MOTHER – Female Age 25 – 35
Loving, cooperative and intense. She undergoes an intense labor and gives birth to the baby. A new mother and baby team would be great for these roles.

BABY VOICE – Male Adult
Brutal, demanding and sharp. He knows exactly what he wants and tells everyone exactly what he thinks, sparing no emotion or explanative. He is exasperated and frustrated with the people around him.  Looking for character voices.

DOCTOR – Male or Female Age 30 or older
Supportive and confident. The doctor is stunned when the baby speaks.

NURSES – Male or Female adults
2-3 Birth attending nurses who are stunned when the baby speaks.

Spot 3 – What’s Cooking?

WOMAN 1 – The “Director” – Female Age 28 – 40
Clinical, exacting and detached. She is “directing” an intimate love-making scenario with prescriptive detachment. She is like a very competent scientist carrying out an experiment.  If we knew her profession it would be something like an accountant or bookkeeper.

MAN 1 – Male Age 30 – 40
Curious, attentive and trying to do his best to follow the “directors” instructions. Maybe a neighbour or someone from her office.

Man 2 – Male Age 30 - 40
Excited and curious. He’s along for the ride and trying to do his best to please the director.

Please prepare to read from the role in the script you are auditioning for.
