for the Canadian Musical Comedy “The Drowsy Chaperone”

The Drowsy Chaperone will be presented in the Studio at
the Vertigo Theatre Centre from May 3 to 19, 2013.
Audition Requirements:
Auditions will be done in 10-minute increments (please
arrive 10 minutes early) with a dance section after every 6 auditions (so
please stick around).
Please bring a headshot & resume to your audition
Auditioner please prepare:
A short monologue –preferably comedic -no more than 3
minutes in length A musical theatre number (not from the show) that shows off
your best qualities. The main body of the show is a1920’s musical so anything
from that era or with that energy would be appreciated. Please provide suitable
accompaniment, ether recorded (no additional vocals please) or live – a piano
will be provided.

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday –January 29, 30, 31,

Rehearsals will be Monday & Wednesday 7-10pm and
Saturdays 1-5pm. There may be some additional dance rehearsals.

Cappuccino produces shows on a volunteer, recreational basis, we will not pay
any professional association fees, such as the fees stipulated by Equity’s
Amateur Guest Artist policy, under any

Mixs ups, mayhem and a gay wedding –back in a time when
gay meant FUN! And that’s just what this show is: FUN! Join the “Man in the
Chair” as he takes us through the 1928 Broadway Musical –Gable & Stein’s
“The Drowsy Chaperone”.
Casting Information
Man in the Chair:
over 30 –agoraphobic Broadway fanatic. Speaking role. Minor singing moments.
Tenor
Mrs. Tottendale: Over 35-
air-headed, proper, and host of the wedding. Alto.
Underling: Over 30 - Mrs. Tottendale's savvy butler who
is thrifty and stiff yet has an understated sense of humor. Bass/Baritone
Robert Martin: 25-35 -The dashing, ever-cheerful groom;
played by matinee-idol Percy Hyman. Lyric Baritone -Tenor
George: 25-35 -Robert's anxious, dim-witted best man who
has Robert's best interest always at heart. Lyric Baritone-Tenor
Feldzeig: Over 30 -Broadway producer who is desperate for
his star Janet Van der Graff to return to his show. Baritone
Kitty: 25-35 -Feldzieg's dim-witted companion who has
hopes of being a star. Soprano
The Gangsters: 25 & up: Posing as pastry chefs, this
duo is intending to collect from Feldzieg; played by the vaudeville duo the
Tall Brothers. Baritone/Tenor
Adolpho: Over 30 -European self-proclaimed "ladies
man". Played by former silent movie star Roman Bartelli. Baritone/Bass
Janet Van der Graff: 25-35: The famous bride. Glamorous
and talented star of Feldzieg's Follies; played by rising star Jane Roberts. A
musical Theatre Belting Soprano! (Ideally be able to belt a high C above middle
for a long time! But don’t let that intimidate you.)
The Drowsy Chaperone: Over 40 - Janet's alcoholic
confidante and friend; played by well-established stage actress Beatrice
Stockwell. Contralto – gotta have a belt! (in more ways than one)
Trix: Any age - The brave and brash female aviator who,
by chance, is recruited to perform the wedding. Mezzo. Might be in the Ensemble
as well.
Ensemble: Plays reporters, servants etc. All ranges and
ages. Would like 3 men & 3 women.
