Audition Notice!

Calling all Calgary Young Artists,

Cowtown Opera is looking for two leading roles, one male and one female ages 9-14 for the world premiere of "ANNIE DAVIDSON."

This is a new work commissioned by the Calgary Public Library composed by Arthur Bachmann and libretto by Aaron Coates. This is to be Directed by JP Thibodeau and Music Directed and Conducted by Carlos Foggin with chamber orchestra at Festival Hall in Inglewood at the end of September.

We believe this new opera will be the highlight of our season with national exposure and high profile coverage as it is a great story of our community and about one of the most prolific women during the formation of Calgary and our heritage as Albertans.

Annie Davidson was the founder of the Calgary Public Library at the age of 68, after losing 10 children and moving across the country. Her story is one of Calgary in the early west of boom and bust . She fought for her love of community and for her voice to be heard, petitioning the philanthropists of early Calgary to fund her vision. She died before the Central Memorial Park Library had opened but her legacy lives on today through generations of Albertans. "She couldn't vote, but she could dream."

The longevity of this opera has a long future, with goals to do pop up performances in October, the possibility of a school tour, as well as another featured performance at the new Central Public Library opening in 2018 in East Village. Below is our short rehearsal process and listing of our performances.

This is a volunteer position offering great stage experience and working with Calgary's finest artists in return.

If you are interested please send your resume, headshot and audio or video recording to cowtownopera@gmail.com by MONDAY AUG.31ST

Thank you for your consideration,

Audition Notice - Morpheus Theatre

Morpheus theatre is pleased to announce auditions for our December pantomime production.

The Sleeping Beauty
By Ben Crocker
Directed by Jay Newman
Performances at the Pumphouse Theatre - December 4th to 13th, 2015

You know the story: the beautiful princess is cursed by an evil fairy to prick her finger on a spindle on her 18th birthday and die. Nothing says "welcome to the world" like the well wishes of a wicked spell caster who wasn't invited to the party. You know the characters: the Princess Aurora and her royal parents, the good fairies, the evil fairy and her cat Spindleshanks and of course, the dashing Prince who saves them all from their perpetual slumber. But this isn't your ordinary slumber party, this is Pantomime! Oh yes it is! And you know what that means - flip flop boys with girls and girls with boys, mind you aren't in the splash zone for the slosh scene - and is that a Queen or a Dame? It's both! It's all topsy turvy fun and games but some things ring true always and it's true love's kiss that will save the day this December. We hope you'll take a break from the hustle and bustle and join us and the zombies for this family friendly holiday tradition.

Open auditions for all roles will take place:
Sunday August 23rd (1:30 to 4:30pm)
Tuesday August 25th (7:00 to 9:30pm)
Thursday August 27th (7:00 to 9:30pm)

at the Morpheus Rehearsal Centre
3512 - 5th Avenue NW
(lower level of the Parkdale Community Centre)

Callbacks will take place on Sunday August 30th starting at 1:30pm, if required.

Rehearsals will take place from mid-September through December 3rd. Rehearsals will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Morpheus Theatre requires that auditioners come prepared to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule.
