Workshop: Moving Voice Institute

UPCOMING WORKSHOP

Moving Voice Institute (formerly the National Voice Intensive) has an upcoming Voice workshop offered at the end of November. Check our their major re-visioning and revising here: movingvoice.org

Rae Ellen Bodie, originally from Calgary but working in Toronto for the past several years, will be joining Dawn McCaugherty for this two day workshop. Our focus is to release the freedom and expressivity of the natural voice via a series of somatic, breathing and vocal exercises. As you know well, this is essential for the actor, who wants the body/mind/emotional connection to be accessible and functioning freely to accomplish their best work.

Synopsis: Agatha Crusty (pronounced Crosty) is a crime novelist. She's also pretty adept at solving crimes. And when her sister-in-law Alice invites her to spend a few days with her in the village of Chortelby, it's not long before she gets caught up in a series of murders which seem directed at members of the All Saints Village Hall committee.  From Toby, the Vicar, and Eleanor, Chair of the committee, to Harry Knott the caretaker and identical twins Olivia and Oliver Truscott-Pratt, there are plenty of suspects. And with an investigating officer as incompetent as D.I. Twigg, there are plenty of laughs as the murders begin to pile up.  But, while packed full of wit and very funny scenes, this is also a genuine murder mystery with an ingenious plot which will tax the grey cells of the audience at the same time!

Audition Notice - Workshop Theatre

AUDITION ANNOUCEMENT

And Then, The Lights Went Out

Written by Andy Garland

Directed by Evan Davies.

We are thrilled to be performing this amazing production for a second time! Workshop Theatre was lucky enough to be the first community theatre group to premier this show in Calgary 5 years ago and we are so excited to be adding this production to our Anniversary Season!

Synopsis:
For the last six formulaic detective novels, author Thomas Levine has been recycling elements of noir fiction until the creativity well has run dry. Now Thomas is well and truly out of inspiration, and the seventh novel is due in the morning... or else. Delirious during a summer heat wave and desperate for any possible chance of originality, he reaches out to the only people who still care about his pulpish dreck: the characters themselves, who have more than a few qualms about the corners they've been written into.

Characters:
NON-FICTION
Thomas Levine 30's, the writer
Adelle Berger 50's, the landlady
Nia Sloan 30's, the neighbour
FICTION
Jim O'Reiley 30's, the private eye
Claire Valcourt 30's, the femme fatale
Bruno Dawes Late 20's, the muscle
Lucy DeBrie Mid 20's, the sidekick
Duke Morrison Mid 50's, the mastermind

Auditions will be held on Thursday October 17th, 2019 at 7pm and Friday October 18th, 2019 at 7pm. Both auditions will be at our rehearsal space, Bay H 1003 55th Ave NE.

Please send us an email to info@workshoptheatre.org with your preferred audition date, your character preference, and your resume & head-shot (if available).

We look forward to seeing you at auditions!!

Audition Notice - Morpheus Theatre

AUDITIONS FOR THE GRADUATE

Adapted by Terry Johnson, based on the novel by Charles Webb and the screenplay by Calder Willingham and Buck Henry
Directed by Danelle White
At the Pumphouse Theatre January 31 to February 15, 2020

For more information (including character descriptions), or to book an audition, visit www.morpheustheatre.ca, call 403-246-2999 or e-mail audition@morpheustheatre.ca.

Benjamin Braddock is a confused young man. Having spent four years achieving a brilliant scholastic record, upon graduation he finds himself adrift, uncertain about his future, disconnected from his purpose, and increasingly alienated from the upper-class, suburban, "plastic" world of his parents in 1960's Southern California. Fighting panic and boredom, he is deeply conflicted but ultimately willing when Mrs. Robinson, the unhappily married, alcoholic, and dangerously charismatic wife of his father's business partner, tempts him into an affair. Benjamin's tenuous existence of lazy days and stolen nights falls apart when he falls in love — with Elaine — Mrs. Robinson's upbeat, optimistic daughter.

Open auditions for all roles will take place:
Monday October 7th (7:00 to 9:30pm)
Wednesday October 9th (7:00 to 9:30pm)
Saturday October 12th (1:00 to 4:00pm)

at the Morpheus Rehearsal Centre, 3512 5 Avenue NW (lower level of the Parkdale Community Centre)

Callbacks, if required, will take place on Tuesday October 15th from 7:00 to 10:00pm.

Audition Requirements:
*A prepared contemporary monologue to highlight your abilities (no more than two minutes in length)
*A cold read may be requested
*Please bring your resume and headshot to the audition

Not a traditional actor? That is okay, get in touch with us and we will find a way for you to showcase what you have to offer.

Rehearsals will take place from October 26th through January 30th, with a three week break for Christmas. Rehearsals will be Saturday Afternoons, Monday and Wednesday evenings. Morpheus Theatre requires that auditioners come prepared to commit to the rehearsal and performance schedule.
