Synopsis:
A horror film following a young boy and his sister’s terrible night as they’re abducted by human traffickers, and at the same time being hunted by three demons.
The young boy’s guardian angel fights them off and attempts to save them.

Character BIOS:

Leads:

[Ariel] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 14-25]
Ariel is a steadfast and courageous spirit, who’s always watching out for her subject and is ready to fight the demons at every turn. Throughout the film she gets progressively worn down by demons of various kinds until finally coming face to face with Satan.

[Jake] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 7-17]
Jake is an awkward and insecure, yet innocent young man with a stutter who in the most unlikely of circumstances (and with the help of Ariel) manages to escape the traffickers with his sister.

[Melissa] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 14-25]
Melissa is Jake’s older brother and a low level worker for the human traffickers, but when she’s no longer of use, she and her brother are taken and she wrestles with the guilt of being responsible for her brother’s fate; until she finally resolves to change her ways and is freed by her brother.

Co-Stars:

[Rachel] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 18-28]
Rachel is a young woman who’s marked by Melissa and abducted early in the film.

[Kendrick, Clayton, Andreas ] [GENDER:MALE] [AGE: 18-28]
These are the three friends who are attempting to save Rachel but, being drug addicts and with darkened intellects, are doomed to fail. Kendrick is Rachel’s boyfriend.

[Kaz] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 18-30]
Kaz is Melissa’s wrangler and is accosted by Kendrick and co. on their journey to save Rachel and is killed.

[Kyle] [GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 24-45]
Kyle is the boss of the human trafficking ring and stays in the mansion/prison where slaves are temporarily held. It’s here that Melissa and Jake are brought to and must escape from. He’s eventually killed by Jake and sentenced by Ariel to hell.

[Kaz and Kyle’s Henchmen/Kyle’s friends (x10)][GENDER: MALE] [AGE: 18-50]:
These guys are used in various capacities, from abducting Rachel, Kayla, Melissa and Jake, to being killed by Kendrick while others kill Kendrick and his friends as they attempt to storm the mansion.

[Kayla] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 18-28]
Kayla is Rachel’s friend and is abducted at the same time as Rachel.

[Melissa and Jake’s Mom] [GENDER: FEMALE] [AGE: 40-50]
Their mother is addicted to crack and we see how her pitiable life style has played a part in Melissa’s bad choices. She’s stoned and passed out the night of the abduction and doesn’t notice them being kidnapped.

[Phobos] [GENDER:MALE] [AGE: 16-25]
Phobos is the spirit of fear and hides in the shadows mostly. He brings fear wherever he goes and preys mostly on Jake. He’s also the spirit with the most influence over Ariel as she tries to navigate the three demons. He wears a WW1 era gas mask and is eventually unmasked, revealing an angsty yet murderous looking teen who could have been a private in the army. He sports a pale face, red eyes and fangs for teeth with vomit on his face.

[Daemon] [GENDER: Either] [AGE: Any]
Daemon is masked the whole movie. He is a hyperactive demon who is constantly pouncing on Ariel, Jake and Melissa. He is the one who accuses them and demands they be handed over to him, he is vicious and brutal.

[He-Goat] [GENDER: Either] [AGE: Any]

The He-Goat is the most intellectual out of the three demons. He attempts to defeat Ariel not by subserve tactics but by quoting scripture and acts as a kind of demonic Lawyer, quite literally the devil’s advocate.

CALGARY ACTS AUDITION CALL: THE SUNSHINE CAFÉ

CALGARY ACTS
AUDITION CALL: THE SUNSHINE CAFÉ

ABOUT

The Chestermere Historical Foundation is in search of actors for its up-coming production of a brand-new play: The Sunshine Café by Melissa Dorsey and Trevor Matheson, directed by Chris Stockton. The show will be performed in Chestermere Lake schools during June and then reconvene for a general public presentation at the end of August.

The Sunshine Café is a family show exploring the history of the Chestermere Lake community. With the help of a young girl who just moved from the big city and a magical waitress, the mysterious Sunshine Café transports audiences on a time-travelling adventure.

THE CHESTERMERE HISTORICAL FOUNDATION
In 2000, then mayor of The Town of Chestermere, Dave Mikkelsen, suggested to resident, Audrey McDonald, that a history book of Chestermere was needed.  Supported by a small budget from the Town, Audrey gathered many volunteers and much material over the next four years. In 2005, 'Chestermere a Home for All Seasons' was published.

The citizens who volunteered remained committed to documenting and recording Chestermere's history even after the completion of the project.  They gathered to form The Chestermere Historical Foundation in 2011. The Chestermere Historical Foundation meets regularly to fulfill the ten objectives of the Alberta registered society, providing programming, exhibits, and advocacy for the importance of local history.

If cast in The Sunshine Café, all actors will agree to follow the team code of conduct, keeping our arts and work spaces free of harassment, bullying, and discrimination.

The Sunshine Café is a history about the Chestermere Lake community on Treaty 7 territory. The lake for which the city is named was constructed at the turn-of-the-century by building a canal to redirect waters from the Bow River at the traditional Blackfoot place "Moh'kins'tsis", which we now call the City of Calgary. Chestermere Lake was built to facilitate settler agriculture in the area, but there is a much longer history of the Stony, Blackfoot, Peigan, Blood, Sarcee, and Metis people thriving off the Buffalo that the Creator had already provided to this land.
