"Who are you?"
"You are the roles you play"

*Hamlet's a challenge for any actor, but when Jessica is cast as the titular character in a New York production, it sends her into an existential tailspin. It doesn't help that her acting coach is borderline abusive, or that every Starbucks barista with an MFA tells her she's too young for the role. Or that she's somehow managed to make Sir Patrick Stewart her nemesis. Not to mention the fact that she's a woman. How can Jessica figure out "to be or not to be," when she can't even figure out herself?

Featuring an all-female cast performing multiple roles, Scorpio presents "Women Playing Hamlet", by William Missouri Downs, and directed by Jennifer Merio.

Roles Available:

·  Jessica: (Female, 20-30 years old): An actress, attractive, quirky, smart.

· Gwen: (Female 40+ years old): A spirited, abusive acting coach, who once played Hamlet.

ENSEMBLE:
In Shakespeare's day, men played all the roles, even the women - here is a chance for women to take the spotlight. Persons cast in Ensemble will play multiple roles, all distinctively different characters, a variety of ages, both male and female. Accents may be required. Listed below is an anticipated breakdown, but roles may be changed to suit the persons casts.

· Actress #1: (Female, 30+) Humanities Professor, Ghost, Drunk Barfly, Lord Derby/Shakespeare Expert, Male Psychiatrist, Gilda/Aging Soap Opera Actress

· Actress #2:  (Female, 18+) Starbucks Actress, Priest, Bike Messenger, Emily/Geeky Teenage Niece, Home Shopping Network Model, Rosy/Young Soap Opera Starlet

· Actress #3:  (Female, 20+) Minnesota Mother, Bartender, Home Shopping Network Hostess, Gravedigger, Stage Manager

Audition Requirements: Actors are asked to choose two contrasting characters from the dialogue sides posted at the Scorpio website. A reader will be provided at the audition. Actors are not asked to memorize, but should be familiar with their pages. Choose characters that you identify with, showcase your talents - most importantly, bring your "self" to the roles.

Those actors seen at call backs will be provided sides for cold reading. A copy of the script is available upon request.

Send resume and headshot bookings@scorpio.ca with the subject line
"Women Playing Hamlet AUDITIONS", and indicate in the body of the email which sides you want to read in your audition, and your preference for a time.

Call for Actors: Adults Only Night – TELUS Spark

Call for Actors: Adults Only Night – Suspended Reality: Mysticeti on May 10, 2018
TELUS Spark is looking for some actors to help us test a new programming idea for Adults Only Night on May 10, 2018. We're doing an immersive narrative experience – sort of like being dropped into a video game – where you can participate in interactive activities, watch scenes, and complete puzzles to put together a story about our connection to the ocean. To make our story come alive, we need some help from actors! Here are the details:
  • Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 4:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Improv skills are very important
  • Comfort interacting with your audience is key – all of the acting will be embedded in the context of the night, and talking to visitors will be important
  • Some of the roles will potentially involve some singing and encouraging visitors to sing too
  • You will get a script and information about your character prior to the date.
  • We are offering an honorarium.
  • We need about 6 actors in total.
If you'd be interested or have questions, please email kathryn.blair@sparkscience.ca and we'll set up a phone conversation to get a mutual sense of what we'll be doing, and confirm details.
Thanks!
