Audition Notice

What:
Secret Diary: School Fire
Secret Diary is a soon to be launched YouTube channel that will host a series of fictional stories delivered using a video diary or vlog type of format. The first series, “School Fire” will have entries posted daily between 2016 January 1 – December 31. Each entry will be approximately 2 minutes long and will follow one of five teenagers as their lives intertwine throughout the series. Each teenager has a secret to begin with and the viewer will develop relationships with these five as they love, laugh, cry, and betray their way through the year. What secrets will come out when a school burns down?

  details provided in “How”

How:
After some initial direction, and with support as required, the entries for each character will be shot alone in the comfort of the bedroom of the actor/actress when they have the time to do so and using their own wardrobe. There should be zero expenses to the actor/actress. Audio and visual equipment will be supplied by Secret Diary.  Likewise, this is a low budget production and no remuneration will be paid up front to any actors and actresses. Instead, in a generous effort to get this channel up and running, Secret Diary is willing to pay 10% of any money earned by Secret Diary: School Fire to each actor/actress. If, for example, each entry received 100,000 views then that would mean an estimated $4,400 USD per actor/actress. Actual pay would depend entirely on series viewership and it could be more or less than this, but this estimate should hopefully showcase the potential.

Who:
Five non-union roles are being offered. Candidates need to be 18 years of age or over but will be playing teenagers from anywhere between 13-18. Please see below for details.

Cheerleader Type (Hannah): A happy go lucky girl who comes from a rich family. She loves fashion, dancing and gossip and is an extreme extrovert. She can generally be described as unintelligent and gullible and while she loves to gossip she is never intentionally mean. She is the most popular girl in school and is impossible to dislike. She despises violence and believes in karma.

High Achiever Type (Sarah): An extremely intelligent, cold and calculating teenage girl whose dad has left her mom and her, leaving them poor and barely scraping by. She uses the intense distrust this has created to guide her decisions and everything she does is with an end goal of escaping her home town and becoming rich and successful. She is quite popular still as she is a great actress and people think she is nicer than she is, but deep down she is manipulative and cruel-hearted.

Jock Type (Mike): An excellent baseball and basketball player whose hard work and team first attitude carry him to successes in those fields. His work ethic carries over to academics but the success doesn’t, much to his father’s disappointment. He comes from a rich family and is the most popular boy in school. He has an easy way about him and generally tries to make good decisions.

Brainy Geek Type (Emily): A bookish and earnest girl who is always in the running for top student. She only really has one friend and would lean towards being introverted. Her mother was her hero and she recently passed away causing her to rethink her life and try to get outside of her comfort zone. Trusting to a fault, she is a well intentioned girl who will still needs to learn a lot of life lessons.

Lazy Gamer Type (Matt): A loner who only really has one friend and prefers to stay away from people when at all possible, despite constant pressure otherwise from his parents. Doesn’t like being in the limelight and gets very nervous when forced into it. Very laid back and tends to put the bare minimum of effort into everything except for gaming. He is someone people would like if they could ever get him to come out of his shell.

Audition Notice: The Who's Tommy

FRC is opening a limited number of slots to audition for The Who's Tommy on Saturday September 19th starting at 1pm.

We are particularly interested in seeing more men in the 30-49 age group (but others are not excluded), and hope we can convince you or someone you may know someone to come out and see us.

There's a saying "Don't judge a musical by it's movie", and it's particularly apt in the case of Tommy - the movie is a bit of an odd 70s beast, and although there are a lot of the same elements, we believe the stage show presents a stronger story that connects with more people.

Also, due to the episodic nature of the show with some of these men's roles we may be able to work around conflicts better than we usually are, so please come discuss your potential conflicts rather than assuming that it's not possible!

This is going to be an "Amazing Journey", so please come out and give it a try!

You can book your audition now at http://www.frontrowcentre.ca/auditions.

Thanks!

Audition Scene – A Christmas Carol
Young Scrooge is alone. He is holding a notebook.
Fan: Ebenezer?
Young Scrooge: Fan?
Fan enters.
Fan: Dear, brother. I have come to bring you home.
Young Scrooge: Home, Fan?
Fan: Yes. Father is so much kinder than he used to be.
Young Scrooge: Father wants me home? I don’t believe it.
Fan: Yes, Ebenezer.
Young Scrooge: Truly? Father wishes me home?
Fan: Yes, that’s what I’m trying to tell you, silly Ebenezer. Father spoke so gently to me one dear night when I was going to bed, that I was not afraid to ask him once more if you might come home; and he said yes, you should. And you’re to be a man and are never to come back here; we’re to be together all Christmas long, and have the merriest time in all the world.
Young Scrooge: You confronted Father on my behalf?
Fan: Of course I did. You’re my brother and I love you.
They hug. Young Scrooge shows Fan a notebook.
Young Scrooge: Look, Fan. My school master gave it to me.
Fan: A place for your stories. What a kind gentleman.
Young Scrooge: He was inspired by you, Fan.
Fan: What do you mean?
Young Scrooge: You talked to Father. And you came all this way to bring me home. He was heartened by your generosity. I will write stories. But I won’t write them for him. I’ll write them for you.
They exit together.

Carol Selections

O Little Town Of Bethlehem
Phillips Brooks (1835-1893), 1868

O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie.
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,
Let nothing you dismay;
Remember Christ, our Saviour,
Was born on Christmas day,
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray.
O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
Charles Wesley (1707-1788), 1739

Hark! the herald angels sing "Glory to the newborn King Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!"
