Studio Update! Spring Session Still Registering

Spring Schedule Now Registering 2nd Half Spring Session Essentials of Acting: Students will explore the fundamentals of acting through partnered scene work. Class work includes improvisation, scene analysis, character development and playing for truth. Scenes will be developed with the instructor’s guidance over the course of six weeks; some rehearsal is required outside of class time $380+GST; 1 Tuesday, 5 Saturdays after the Long Weekend Essentials of Film: The fundamentals of on-camera technique are introduced through scene work and an exploration of the audition process. The actor works on new sides (scenes) each week, with the emphasis on crafting an authentic performance for the camera. This six-week class culminates in a simulated audition. Includes discussion on the business of acting and related topics 6 weeks $380+GST; 1 Thursday (before the Long Weekend), 5 Saturdays after the Long Weekend TEEN Film & TV: A perfect opportunity for teens to get involved in the Film & Television industry, gaining valuable knowledge of the audition experience and on-camera technique . Students will work with the instructor on a selection of scenes from contemporary scripts, while learning to work creatively from the text. Master Class Program is a one-year full-time acting program.  The program is intended to provide the student actor with an intense level of training under the highest caliber of professional instruction. Master Class consists of four primary streams of study:  Scene Study, Meisner Technique, Acting for Film &Television, and Voice & Movement for the Actor. Located on Calgary’s funky and exciting 17th Avenue Strip, Company of Rogues is deeply immersed in the vibrant theatre and film communities in both, Calgary, Alberta and Vancouver, B.C. Our actors are sought after by local/regional casting directors, filmmakers and theatre companies alike. Furthermore, at Rogues all our instructors are working professionals who offer the highest quality of instruction and mentorship; providing career counseling and guidance even beyond the term of the program. Our Studio Directors, Christianne Hirt and Joe-Norman Shaw are available to provide you with more detailed information through a Master Class Interview. Actors interested in applying for the Master Class Program should contact the Studio to arrange an interview and to set up an audition. ABOUT THE PLAY: Nick, a Canadian university student, decides to spend his summer volunteering in a Liberian refugee camp in Ghana. But the Lonely Planet guidebook doesn't prepare you for nightmare scenarios. When Nick befriends a former child soldier, Abraham, he is taken hostage in a desperate bid to stop a war crimes trial from proceeding in the Hague. Inspired by interviews that playwright Matthew MacKenzie conducted during two trips to the Buduburam refugee camp in 2004 and 2007, Sia tackles the challenging relationship between North America and West Africa through a carefully woven story of hope and atrocity. This riveting new play from one of Canada's most exciting young playwrights was the Grand Prize Winner of the 2010 Alberta Playwriting Competition (sponsored by Alberta Playwrights Network), where the jury praised this engrossing and heartbreaking play for being "honest, hard-hitting and on the mark". Downstage's production of Sia is directed by Artistic Producer Simon Mallett and features Edward Ogum as Abraham, Joe Perry as Nick and Monice Peter as Sia. Design is by Neil Fleming, T. Liffey Players presents Someone Who'll Watch Over Me

Hello!

I am writing to personally invite you to come out and see my latest theatrical endeavour.  The play "Someone Who'll Watch Over Me" written by Frank McGuinness is a powerful piece of theatre which follows the lives of three men who have been taken hostage in Lebanon in the late 1980's.  Based on actual events, we see how these men deal with the privations of living in a windowless room, chained to a wall for months on end, not knowing of they will ever be released.  At times funny, at others darkly sobering, we are given a glimpse into the experiences of the dozens of men who lived through this experience.  Starring Ian Bamford, myself and Bruce Mitchell, this is an intimate and revealing theatrical experience that I hope you will all take the time to see.

Following the run here in Calgary, we are taking the show over to Dublin, Ireland to perform at the Acting Irish International Theatre Festival in mid-May!

Interested in being part of a micro-budget, super-indie short film that'll be entered in a contest this year?

My film's a dramatic comedy, with elements of fantasy, that focuses on using mysticism to find a meaning in life (or lack thereof).

Auditions for the roles below are well-underway, but there's still an opportunity for more
people to try out.

I'm also looking to fill some crew positions, if you're so inclined.

RUNE (Late 20s) - The maln character of the story, he's striving to make sense of his life and seeks out guidance from some unlikely sources. Having a British or European accent would be an asset.

JADE (Early 20s) - A supporting character, she's a waitress at the cafe that Rune frequents and has a mischievous streak.

FORTUNE TELLER (Any Age/Ethnicity) - A supporting character, he's eccentric, rude, and inconsiderate, but amusing nonetheless.

GURU (Middle Aged/East-lndian) - A supporting character, he's wise beyond comprehension but maintains a level of silliness.
