ROGUES THEATRE: 2010-2011 SEASON/AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

With three great plays from successful Broadway and Off-Broadway productions, Calgary’s only New York Style theatre company announces their upcoming season. Rogues Theatre’s 2010-2011 season features the Calgary premiere of exciting works by Neil Labute, Stephen Adly Guirgis and Donald Margulies.

SOME GIRLS

By: Neil LaBute. Director: Joe-Norman Shaw

October 27- Nov. 6, 2010. Pumphouse Theatre

-Neil LaBute's Some Girl(s) is a comedy straight from the trenches of the war between the sexes. "Guy”, a writer known only by that moniker, revisits four women from his past on his way up the aisle of matrimony. He invites each to his hotel room (in four different cities), intent on making sure there are no hard feelings, even though he has previously used their time together as material for his fictional work. In this bold tale of love cast aside, "Guy" learns a shocking truth about the price each woman has paid for his youthful cowardice.

DEN OF THIEVES

By: Stephen Adly Guirgis. Director: Joe-Norman Shaw.

February 23- March 5, 2011. Pumphouse Theatre

-Maggie is a newly single, junk-food-bingeing shoplifter looking to change her life and her self-hating ways. Paul is her passionately convicted, formerly four-hundred-pound compulsive-overeating sponsor in a twelve-step program for recovering thieves. Maggie's jealous ex-boyfriend is a charismatic wannabe Puerto Rican small-time thief of uncertain ancestry named Flaco who spins a grammatically challenged but persuasive yarn about seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars in unprotected drug money sitting in a safe in a downtown disco guarded by an easily distracted crackhead. This dubious and ragtag would-be criminal crew is rounded out by Flaco's new girlfriend, the fabulous Boochie-a malaprop-slinging topless dancer who refuses to let her troubled childhood or her third-grade reading level stand in the way of her inevitable path to fame, fortune and fur. When things don't quite go according to plan, this bickering quartet of hapless thieves finds themselves at the mercy of Louie "The Little Tuna" Pescatore.
