MASTER SCREENWRITING CLASS

January-March                                 FILM STRUCTURE CLASS 1

STRUCTURE IS THE ESSENCE OF SCREENWRITING AND THE FUNDAMENTAL TOOL IN A GOOD SCREENPLAY.   BUILDING THE CLOTHESLINE TO HANG YOUR SCREENPLAY ON IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES, BUT ALSO THE MOST REWARDING WHEN YOU GET IT RIGHT.  IT WILL SAVE YOU INNUMERABLE DRAFTS, GIVE YOU A SKELETON TO BUILD FROM, AND ENSURE YOUR CHARACTERS HAVE STRONG INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL GOALS AND THAT THEIR DESIRES AND PASSIONS ARE THE CENTRE OF YOUR SCREENPLAY.

Structure encompasses, external action, inner and outer character goals and arcs, thematic structure, A & B subplots or multiple subplots and visual images/ metaphors structured into your screenplay.  It is the layers of the screenplay that give the screenplay depth, but it starts first with laying the groundwork of the main external A structure and character goals and arcs.

Saturday 2:00-4:30

After Christianne won the lead role of Hannah in the series Lonesome Dove, the two moved to Calgary where they re-established Company of Rogues in 1996, continuing their vision to cultivate a community of first class actors.
